Fitness Habits for the Holidays

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to lose momentum in your exercise routine? You miss a few days here, skip a leg day there, or you avoid cardio like the plague — this can (and does!) happen to all of us. After years of training and attempting to help others reach their own personal goals, there is probably not one excuse I have not used or have yet to hear!

The reality is that over time we can become accustomed to specific workouts, and honestly, it can easily get boring. With Halloween just weeks away that means Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are just around the corner, so the temptation to make excuses for missing your gym session is at an all-time high. You have committed too much of yourself to not reach your personal goals, so we are here to help! Here are some helpful ideas to help you get through the holidays.

NEVER Miss a Monday.

This seems to be a no brainer because we typically begin the work week on Monday. Why not maintain that same sense of accountability to our physical fitness and development?  Besides, most of us are already out of the house so just pack a gym bag in the car and get a workout in before or after work!

Give yourself at least 3 days per week

Think about it if you commit to just three days out of your week to exercise, your body will begin to crave it. If you miss it, you will notice the difference.

Never Go More Than 4 days Without Rest

This directly correlates to the previous concept. Once you have completed at least  three days of exercise, now you have to rest and recover. Use your rest day(s) to enjoy family and friends, or participate in what we call “active rest”, like walking or biking.

NEVER GIVE UP

It’s self explanatory, but there is a reason each and everyone of us have committed to this lifestyle. It is difficult to step out of our comfort zone, but change is necessary to achieve our personal fitness goals. A healthy lifestyle is the best gift you can give yourself for the holidays!

Get ahead of the holidays this year and establish a fitness routine that will sustain you from now into the new year. Your body will thank you for it!
